Secrets Of Benefits of walking - An Introduction

What better way is there in promoting and maintaining good health than walking? It's free, it's easy and you can do it almost anywhere. The Surgeon General suggests people get at least one half hour of moderately vigorous activity each day. Walking is a low impact aerobic exercise that reaps many benefits.

The reason that walking provides you with all of these benefits is because of the way your system deals with low levels of exercise for prolonged periods. Whenever you workout, regardless of the type of exercise or even the duration, your muscles tissue will become ripped on a microscopic level. These small rips within the muscle tissue are totally normal. Your system, in order to combat the wear and tear, goes to work to fix the muscle. The first things that your body will perform is to release Endorphin's and Serotonin. Both of these chemicals make you feel happy, they are your bodies very own type of pain killers and mood enhancers. Which means this helps you to naturally lower your level of stress.

However, walking is an exercise most anyone can do. It does not cost anything and does not require special equipment to reap the benefits of walking. Walking is by far the easiest exercise and can be incorporated into any daily routine. Walking briskly 30 minutes a day, five times a week is all you need as part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle!

The best place to walk in the spring and summer time is outdoors. Many towns and cities have walking trails for public use. Walking trails are a good way to get your daily exercise without joining an expensive gym. You can get your daily amount of exercise in by walking, and the best part is when you are walking outdoors, it's free. If you don't know where to find walking trails in your area, try the website

We all live in a society which basically has eradicated any form of natural exercise which could be beneficial to us. Think about it: We basically live in our cars! We run our errands by entering drive-through restaurants, post offices and what not. You can't simply walk to the corner store to pick up a few items, anymore. Our whole infrastructure is designed based upon the automobile and we are programmed to use it whenever possible. If you want to exercise you can drive to the gym. How ironic!

Walking with poles burns more calories. A study carried out at the Cooper Institute in Texas in 2001 showed that using poles for walking boosted calorie burn by twenty percent - without significantly increasing the perceived effort. Most people would like to burn a more calories without feeling like they're working harder - and walking poles can help with that.

First, choose walking shoes that have a cushion in the soles to absorb unnecessary impact to the knees. Also, walking on soft surfaces are better than hard surfaces. As long as you watch out to avoid ruts, the grass is easier on the walking body than the street or hard mall floor. Though, if mall walking is your only choice, choose it over not walking at all. Make sure you drink plenty of water before setting out to walk. Your rule of thumb should be, if you begin to perspire, you need to take in more fluids. If you get out in the fresh air, it can also give a boost to your emotions and spiritual well being. Just make sure you carry a cell phone and walk in an area where some other people are around such as a park that ideally is patrolled by police periodically.
