Commercial Diet Plans Secrets - The Facts

It is that time of the year when everyone makes their New Year's resolutions. For a large portion of us that list will probably contain the resolve to lose weight. The problem is that, while the "will" to lose weight may be genuine, it is often difficult to find the right mechanism to achieve the goal.

Commercial Diet Plans Secrets - The Facts

There are literally hundreds of diet plans available today. There are low carb plans, low fat plans, high protein plans, body blueprint plans, and food combination plans. You name it and chances are that someone has built a diet plan around it. There are plans that say you must starve yourself to lose weight and there are plans that say you can eat more than you ever have before in order to stimulate a slow metabolism. Some plans count calories; others fat grams or carbs. Some work on a point system. There are plans that claim you don't have to exercise at all and plans that expect you to exercise for hours each day. The only thing that all of these diet plans seem to have in common is the plan to take your money away from you.

Jenny Craig is nothing new in terms of nutrition or dieting. It uses a low calorie, low fat and portion control model. Pro: the program offers scheduled one-on-one consultations at onsite centers or over the phone. Weigh-ins are conducted during each consultation but remain private rather than announced to a group. Jenny offers cuisine and products available through each center and online. The program also offers 24/7 support through online message boards and live chats. Con: there is an expense involved in joining the program as well as the cost of the pre-packaged food.

The Zone Diet focuses on the importance of meal timing so that you can keep your blood sugar balanced. It is based on three meals and two snacks per day; all aimed at stimulating the metabolism. Pro: It incorporates the food groups in a healthy balance while teaching dieters "when" and "how" to eat certain foods. Con: Like some of its sister programs, it is somewhat complex to learn and may be difficult to sustain for those who are simply looking to shed a few vanity pounds rather than adopting a new method of eating.

Weight Watchers Diet provides an excellent support system for those who need it in order to maintain their diet program. It also incorporates a large portion of the total food pyramid, offering dieters a cross-section of food choices. Additionally, the program sells pre-packaged foods, in the right portions, making it easier to stay within the parameters of the diet.

Commitment is crucial to any diet or exercise program. Attempting either without it, is a useless waste of time. Also consider setting the specific goals and objectives you want to obtain through dieting before choosing your program. Surround yourself with a support system. You can not and will not succeed without it. Finally, don't look at any eating program as just a "diet" that you use to lose a few pounds. For it to be effective, you must accept it as a new approach to eating. Then, and only then, will you be successful!
