Benefits of apple Methods - Some Thoughts

Along with the interest of many Americans in natural medicines to treat disease came a surge of fantastic claims surrounding folk remedies, vitamins and herbs. Such claims are usually made by individuals with a financial interest in an enterprise selling products purported to prevent or cure a disease. Although healthy eating and reliance on herbal medicine is a most powerful combination to prevent and cure disease, proceeding in this direction without knowledge may prove fatal. Modern man's forefathers knew what they were doing. It is unlikely that they understood the scientific principles behind their practice of medicine. Nevertheless, they achieved results without side effects and lived strong healthy lives into their old age.

Let's talk about apple cider vinegar. First off, it must be organic, not processed. I prefer Bragg's apple cider vinegar. Organic vinegar has the mother in it. Apples are rich in potassium and enzymes. Apples also contain iron, boron and minerals. Potassium is known as the mineral of youthfulness.    Apple cider vinegar has been dated back to at least 3000 B.C. ACV has been used by the Babylonians and Julius Caesar's army.

Measure the flour, sugar and salt together. Stir to combine.    Add the chilled butter pieces and shortening to the bowl. Cut them in with a pastry cutter or knife. Don't over mix them.    Add the ice water. Mix until the dough holds together (add a bit more water, if necessary).    Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead it together, then divide in half.    Flatten each half into a disk, wrap in saran wrap and chill for at least half an hour.    Roll out one of the disks on a lightly floured surface until you have a circle that's about 12 inches in diameter.    Put the circle in a 9" pie plate, trimming any extra dough from the edges with a sharp knife. Return it to the refrigerator until you are ready to make the pie.    Add filling (see below)    Roll out the second ball of dough and cover top. Use a fork or your fingers to pinch the edges together. cut a couple slits in the top.

Apples, (red, green or yellow) taste good and provide essential vitamins, minerals and fiber in our diets. They may be eaten raw, cooked, peeled or unpeeled, and as applesauce or juice. With all the different varieties and ways to consume them it shouldn't be too difficult to incorporate more apples into our diet. Some reported different health benefits from consuming apples and apple products are listed below.

The familiar phrase, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," came from an old English adage. "To eat an apple before going to bed, will make the doctor beg his bread." And no wonder people were touting the benefits of apples years ago. They are fat, sodium and cholesterol free, while at the same time contain vitamins C, A, and K, as well as calcium, phosphorus, potassium, antioxidants such as beta carotene and lute in, to name a few.

A Brazilian study showed that women who ate apples and pears on a daily basis experienced greater weight loss than those who ate oat cookies as a supplement. They also had lower blood sugar levels. It's not surprising that apples and applesauce would promote weight loss. Apples are a good source of pectin, a natural fiber that suppresses appetite. Other studies have shown that apples may reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
